It’s a new dawn. It’s a new day. It’s a new blog! Well, sort of. ;)
My lovely friends, you may notice a HUGE change to my blog today, and that’s because I went forward with my idea to change the name of my blog from “Around the Watts House” to “Iris Nacole, A Home & Lifestyle Blog” to reflect the direction I am hoping to take it in. That is for it to be a resource for not only home related discussions, but anything life throws at me really. I personally find it hard being put in a box, and I felt as though Around the Watts House was stifling my creativity a bit, or even worse, making me complacent and not pushing myself to grow beyond just home related topics. Though I still plan to primarily share home related content, I think being a first-time mom, a wife, a caretaker, and someone who has gone through major life changes and challenges through all of these experiences, has given me some insight that I’d like to share. However, I feel like I should have a platform to speak about those things without feeling as though I have duped my readers into joining the conversation. Instead, I am inviting those aspects of my life into my home decor obsessed world, and hope to connect to you all on an even deeper level, sharing my experiences, and what I have learned, or not learned over time. I’m hoping that you all join me in this new journey, as I push myself out of my comfort zone on occasion to reveal that I too am just like any other person out there, with talents and failures, and desires and disappointments. It’s not all about a pretty house around here. It’s about connecting and inspiring one another to do better, and to be better, and to accept what is ,when needed, and to push for more when we can. I know this will all take some time to be apparent here on the blog as I don’t plan to bombard you with all of that right away. Anyways, you can always expect a good ole home decor related post, a redecorated space, or craft to be shared here. That will not change, I promise you. I enjoy those things far too much to not have them be my primary focus! Actually, that leads me to another goal for this new domain of mine.
As most of you know, I hope to become a professional interior decorator, or interior designer (only time will tell which I choose) one day. I can almost feel myself in the role already, which means I truly am passionate enough about it to follow it through to fruition. I pray that one day you will log on to my site and see that I have a client’s home to share with you, and that in turn will become a portfolio for future clients to refer to when looking for someone to help them create a home environment they will love. I hope to take you all along on my journey to that place as I start my studies, and prepare to meet my goal.
I look forward to all of these things, especially if you will join me, so please leave me a line or two sharing your thoughts on this change, and don’t forget to save my new domain address https://irisnacole.com to your favorites bar. Around the Watts House will continue to redirect to Iris Nacole until the hosting runs out on it. I will give you more information on when that will be soon. I can’t wait to hear from you all! Have a beautiful day!

Obviously I am WAY behind in my blog g reading, but I just wanted to say, “You go girl!” I’m so happy to find someone else who knows life is more than perfectly puffed pillows . One of these days I’m going to pull the trigger and get my blog published. I hav been hesitant because of what you are feeling. Maybe we can run for ideas by each other as we journey down there s path!

Congrats, to you sweet Iris! I love that you have branched out a little and is willing to share more of your life stories with us. I once thought of doing my blog only on home decor but I too felt a bit closed in and figured I’d just stick with what I already. I wish you all the best and hope for the new year. Can’t wait to read your posts!
Iris says
Thank you so much! I’m slowly brainstorming ideas to branch away from just home decor. Hopefully whatever I come up with will be good! Haha! I really appreciate your support!!

Yay! Good for you Iris! I’ll tell you, I love the freedom a life style blog provides and not feeling trapped in just one area. Since our creativity overlaps to so many areas, even motherhood, it allows you to share your ideas more openly and authentically. Best of luck.

Yes ma’am! I really want to be able to touch on those subjects as I feel necessary without disrupting the flow of my blog. I really hope to connect with everyone on another level, and learn from those conversations. I think it’ll be a wonderful thing!

As a friend told me recently, 2016 is the Year of Yes! As an interior design student myself (just starting at 41!) I know it’s never too late to change courses or go for your dream. So GO for it and looking forward to the new format.
Iris says
Thank you so much Teri! I used to think I was always too old to do this or that, and I missed out on so much because of it. At 33 I find that I can do just about anything I put my mind to. I’ve just gotta take that first step. Good luck with your courses! I bet you’ll be great at it all!
