A Challenge Within A Challenge…
Well, we all went down last week. From the last post, until today, one by one, we all got sick in this household. What does that mean for the challenge? You’ve probably guessed already, but we didn’t get a thing done. I wasn’t about to stir up dust while we were all fighting a nasty cold, so construction has halted to allow for healing. We hope to get back to it soon though, as we’re on the mend, and hope to have this kicked by the end of this work week.
If you’re not sure what I’m referring to, we are working on a stairway makeover, to replace our old carpet with new, and while where at it, we plan to paint the balusters, and stain the handrail and newel posts. We’ve been working on stripping them down to the original wood, which has taken a considerable amount of time, and effort. To be clear, we’re doing that to just the handrail, end caps, and newel posts. I can’t imagine stripping the balusters too. It’s not a task for the weary, and honestly I wish we would have just pulled it all up and replaced it with new. It would have been done by now. Sometimes, saving money, comes at the costs of time. It’s not all bad though! We have made a lot of progress, but need that final push to have it ready for the big reveal. At the upper landing, we have had an arched niche wasting space, so we busted that out and have cut MDF pieces to build a closet in its place. I think I need to share some of the footage from that day on Instagram soon. Keep an eye out!
Actually, some things did get done! Our porch products arrived, and you may have seen one of them, the table, in an Instagram story, if you follow along there. We didn’t have the strength to put the bench together, but I’m going to attempt that today, because I really want to see what it looks like in person!
That’s all for now. Even writing this post has me feeling tired, so I’m going to rest a bit and then attempt to unbox and build the bench. If all goes wrong, and we don’t have the interior spaces finished by the end of this challenge, then at least we will have the exterior space finished! Now if only the rain would stop…
