A Colorful and Vintage Inspired Holiday Home Office
Our holiday decor is slowing taking over our house, and I’m exhausted, excited, and giddy over it. I think we will have three trees this year. One in my office, which again you’ll get a look at before the “big reveal” coming early next year. One in our formal living room, and one in our family room. Well, if you count the cute colorful mini tree in my son’s room, it’s actually four, and I can’t leave things in even numbers, so I’m going to have to come up with one more to make things right around here. Each room has a different vibe, and that’s what is truly the most exciting part, because it challenges me to also make them feel somewhat connected, so there is an overall flow throughout the house, despite the differences.
I’ll be sharing the larger spaces with you all in just a little while. Today though, I’m sharing my colorful little vintage inspired tree in my home office. Sometimes I see something and get inspiration from it, and other times I let things happen organically. This space is one of them, and I’m enjoying the process of it coming together.
Cute Colorful Tree
I spend a good amount of time in my office these days. Sewing, crafting, or just taking a moment to myself, so of course I wanted to enjoy the ambiance of the holidays in there too. The space doesn’t allow for a large tree, and luckily I’ve purchased a few smaller trees over the years, that we were able to pull from storage and use in here. This tree was from IKEA, a few years back. I think they currently sell a similar one, so if you’ve been looking for a small Charlie Brown type tree, they there in you have a chance. It’s not pre-lit, but one strand of lights was all it took to give this cutie a beautiful glow.
The ornaments are a mix of new and vintage. I had intended to do just vintage ornaments, but I have misplaced a good amount of mine somewhere, so I made due with the ones I could find, and mixed them with some green frosted ornaments, as well as, colorful honeycomb ornaments from Hobby Lobby. Yes, I said colorful. Haha! They mix nicely, I think! I’ve even found special meaning in one of them. Our pet beta fish recently passed, and I think the beautiful fish ornament memorializes him well. Because my original plan of all vintage didn’t work out, the overall vibe of the tree shifted too, meaning I needed a different tree topper than I had originally planned. Luckily I found this beautiful vintage glass tree topper in my collection to top the tree though, and I think it’s the perfect addition. For the tree skirt, I used a vintage piece of fabric that I’ve been hoarding for a while. I almost didn’t pull it out of storage, but I’m so glad that I did!
Shelf Styling
To keep the shelving as is, and keep the clutter down, I opted to add just a few decorations to them. I found the most adorable vintage cardboard houses a few years about at a little shop. I hadn’t had a chance to use them since, but they are the perfect addition to the office this holiday season. I’m pretty sure I’ll be adding to my collection if I come across more in the future.
Ribbon Display
Another vintage find making a debut in the space is our large peg wall wrack. I saw this beauty at least two years about at one of my favorite shops. I wanted it for my home, but didn’t have a place for it, so I’d just push my cart past it, staring at it longingly instead. Of course, of day it came to me that it would be perfect for our upstairs hallway, and when I went to purchase it I found that the booth was marked down, making this beauty an even better find. It lived upstairs for about a year, and then I brought it down to the office when we started the makeover. It’s truly one of the most functional items in the office, making an otherwise blank wall work. I’ve been gathering ribbon to use throughout the house, as well as for gift wrapping, and they’ve all been sitting in a bag since. I thought I might as well show off their beauty on the pegs while I wait to use them. It makes for a function decor, that’s for sure! To complete the look, I hung a couple of my homemade stockings, and stuffed a bottle brush tree into one of them. Such a fun look!
Honestly, I’m tempted to craft a few ornaments to add to the tree. If I do, I’ll be sure to share that on my Instagram feed, and here as a tutorial. I hope you’ve enjoyed this glimpse into my home office, and that I’ve given you some ideas to use in your own home. Have a wonderful day, friend!
