A Cozy Fall Tablescape
Cozy. I’ve been using that word a lot recently. I think it’s due to the fact that I’m feeling like my home is finally starting to come together in a way where no matter which room I am in, I’m happy in it, which makes complete sense, given that the definition of “cozy” is as follows:
co·zy/ˈkōzē/Learn to pronounceadjective
- giving a feeling of comfort, warmth, and relaxation.
Despite the mess that comes with renovations, I can see through it all to the other side, and I’m happy with where it’s all heading. We recently gave our home office a makeover. Some of you longtime readers may be thinking, “Again?”, and yes, again, because life changes, and the needs from our home change with it. I’m attempting new hobbies, like sewing, which require a good amount of table space, at least for this novice, I decided it was time to get rid of the home office as it was and to create a space that would be multifunctional for me. We’re so close to being done with the makeover, but I couldn’t help but put together a little tablescape for fall and share it here now.
The word cozy also takes me directly back to my childhood home. Thinking back, we didn’t have a lot going on decor wise, and yet we did. Everything was thoughtfully placed, displayed, and left to enjoy for years and year. My grandparents didn’t change up their decor seasonally like I do. In all the years living in my childhood home, the only things that changed were a couple of dining tables, and a few living room chairs and couches, and that was out of pure necessity. It was a small home, so we had a tiny dining area, not much bigger than this little banquette area, but despite the limited space we managed to have huge celebrations with family and friends. It was the most active little table I’ve ever seen in a home.
Grandpa would pull out one of our two or three vases from the cabinet, clip a rose from one of the rosebushes we had on the property and place it inside to display on our table. It was the centerpiece to many breakfasts, lunches and dinners, and it was oh so special.
There probably wasn’t a time that a cup of coffee wasn’t being drunk, or a cake or pastry wasn’t being enjoyed at the table, and I didn’t realize it until I set down to write this post, but I unconsciously recreated what I’ve been missing. Funny how the mind works!
I feel so lucky to have a space that can take me back in memory to my childhood home. In a lot of ways, I think this entire room in an homage to my grandparents. I can’t wait to share more about it all with you in an upcoming post. I hope you come back to read it when I do.
