A Quiet Fall Living Room
Friends, I am so excited to share this space with y’all today! Our living room is one of those spaces that is ever evolving. I think that’s because it’s the space that gets the most use, and well, with the pandemic we’ve learned just how vital it is to have a space that we can all relax and enjoy while we do our best to wait it out. Plus, and you may relate to this, once you spend so much time in a space, you start to notice the things that don’t work, and start daydreaming/planning to fix them. That’s exactly what we did here, by utilizing a few pieces that were already in our home, and bringing in a couple of new pieces too.
My grandparent’s old coffee table/side table (see above) had been sitting in our garage for a few years before I decided to bring it inside and use it upstairs in our entertainment room. Over time, it was replaced with a more suitable piece, and put to the side, just waiting to be used again one day. After contemplating where to find a new piece for the living room, it clicked one day that I already had a great piece, so why not use it? We brought it down, along with the two slip-covered swivel chairs, and gave it a go. It worked! Only thing was that the layout of the room needed to change again, so we moved the furniture around to accommodate the new look. Then about a week later, I got wind of a new collection coming to Target, by Studio McGee. This is the second one this year, and it keeps getting better! Of course, I had to get to a store and see what they had in stock, since it hasn’t actually been released online yet. Shopping Tip! Always check in stores. Most will start to fill their shelves a couple of weeks before the collections are released, and you can snag some really sought after pieces early! I came across a new chair from the collection that I love! I purchased it and ran out the doors with it as fast as I could. At least that’s how it felt to me, but I think I was in a race with myself, since nobody else seemed as interested in it at the time. Ha! Of course, getting the one was great, but I needed two, so we checked with another store location in our area, and found that they had one in stock. Off I wen, to get it! All the excitement and effort was worth it, because they ended up being the perfect additions to the space, and provide much needed comfortable seating. One thing though, I wasn’t a huge fan of the back cushion so I replaced them with a couple of large vintage pillows. I like the look much more this way, and they are even more comfortable to lean back on. Decorating Tip! Do what you want with what you have! There are no rules!
All this happened right around the time I started getting the itch to decorate for fall. Perfect timing! The space is probably the nicest it’s ever been, which made decorating it for fall a breeze. I didn’t want to do anything over the top this year, so I kept to a neutral color palette, and adding in just a couple of warmer colored pieces like the throws on the chairs, and a couple a pillow here and there, to spice things up a bit.
My biggest tip when sticking to a neutral palette is to make sure you have a variety of texture in the space, so that the overall look doesn’t fall flat. For fall, that can include knits, faux fur, chenille, and boucle, which is very popular right now. Rightfully so, being so soft and cozy!

All of these tips applied created this calm, warm and inviting space in our home. I’d love to know if you apply them to your’s! Share your decorating plans for fall with me in the comments! I can’t wait to hear them!
Until next time!
