Bringing in the Green for Spring
I’ve been trying to figure out exactly how I want to decorate our new shelves in our kitchen, ever since we got them late last year. Well, apparently today is the day I have figured it out. Since Spring is right around the corner, plants were the first things to come to mind, so I headed to Lowe’s to check out their inventory. When I got there and saw all the beautiful flowers and plants, I started to lose focus. I started to daydreaming about refreshing our yard with beautiful flowers, once the warm weather shows that it will be sticking around. Doing so, I ended up browsing all the aisles in the garden department. I picked up a couple of plants, and at one point Rordan spotted a “car” cart across the way, and as we rolled our cart towards it I saw the large inventory of succulents displayed nearby. They had them in varying sizes, shapes, and colors. Ding! The light bulb came on. I could plant succulents in some sort of container that would lend itself to the kitchen! Rordan and I proceeded to choose our favorites from the bunch, and check out. I knew we’d have limited space, since the containers would have to be fairly small to fit the space, so I chose only two for each. Lowe’s is located in a small shopping center along with Marshall’s so we headed that way to look for our containers. They always have a great selection of kitchen ware to choose from, so I knew I could find something that would work. I wish I could say that I walked straight to that department, but I was sidetracked by the shoe department, and ended up finding a cute pair of shoes for Rordan to wear this Spring/Summer. At first I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t see anything that fit my color scheme, which in my mind was going to be blue and white, so I proceeded to tour the rest of the area, in hope that I would find a misplaced item or another option that might work just as well. I made my rounds, and ended up in the kitchen ware section again. On the bottom shelf I spotted two blue and white bowls. “Darn!” I thought. “I need three!”. Well as luck would have it, I found one more placed inside of a black and white bowl. Yippee! On my way to the checkout I found two cute pots for the other plants I found at Lowe’s, and proceeded to purchase them all. Armed with my materials I headed home. Okay that’s not true. I headed straight to Del Taco to get some nachos for lunch. Haha! Here is a quick photo tutorial showing how I completed this project for my kitchen. I hope you are inspired to try it yourself, if you have a chance! Be sure to share it with me if you do. I’d love to see!
Pick your bowl.
Fill it with potting soil.
Take your succulents, and plant them in the soil.
Enjoy your beautiful creation!
PS: I switched the order of the bowls on the shelves after I finished taking pictures for this post. I added the taller succulents to the bottom shelf and placed the other bowl in its place. For some reason I was thinking you wouldn’t see shorter ones as well on the top, but that’s not the case. 🙂
