Floral Styling for Late Summer to Early Fall
If you’ve followed along for a while, y’all know I am one of those people that likes to pretend it’s fall, far earlier than the weather permits me to feel it. This year is no different, though I think I’m taking a more subtle approach to it than previous years. I’m starting out by changing/adding a few new floral arrangements around the house, and if you feel ready too, I’m sharing a few of my favorite online and in-store sources to help you achieve the look yourself. For those of you lovelies that prefer to wait, this post will always be here for you to refer back to when needed. Although the online world can start to change much sooner than most prefer, it’s only because most of what you are seeing is produced by businesses, big and small, and now is the time to get the info out to you all. I’ve succumbed before, to the pressure to fit in, but most certainly these days, I find my spirit is happier when I follow my own path, taking inspiration and using it in my own time.
Knowing and finding good sources for decor makes life so much easier, and can really play a big part in the overall budget for a project. Finding key pieces that can be used again and again, is certainly a perk as well, and that’s what I’m hoping I accomplished for you with this informative post on floral arrangement for your home.
I found this one at HomeGoods of all places! I mean, I know they have a pretty great selection of all things, but my particular stores haven’t ever had the greatest selection of dried florals and grasses until this year. Maybe it has to do with the popularity of using them in everyday decor these days, or maybe someone has been beating me to them all this time, but I’m so happy I was able to pick up this little bouquet to display in my home. The greatest part about finding a bouquet, is that it comes with a good variety of stems, which creates such a beautiful look without all of the guess work. This one in particular caught my eye because of the dusty colors which remind me of late summer, and of course the wheat and thistle, which are key ingredients to a beautiful fall arrangement.
If you aren’t lucky enough to get a hold of one of these bouquets, don’t fret! They are simple enough that you could find a field and pick wild what you’d need, or skip the bugs, possible snake bites and angry land owners, seriously, get permission first, and sit inside and order key pieces from some really great online vendors. Can you tell which I prefer to do?
I really wanted to share this exact bouquet with you all, and tried finding it online, but was unable to, so I went to one of my favorite sources for something similar. Etsy!

Some key steps I take to ensure a beautiful arrangement is to follow the elements of design. Line, Color, Form, Space, Texture. These elements can be used in floral arrangement as well as decorating.
Line- Is the shape or path of the arrangement to give it movement.
Color- Color sets the mood immediately. Determine the preferred color of your arrangement, in this case, soft, deep, and warm colors.
Form- Width, Height, Depth. Pointed, Round. Are they base florals, filler florals, or subject florals?
Space- Solid and negative areas of your arrangement, allowing your eye to rest and appreciate all elements of the arrangement.
Texture- The feel and look of each stem. Is it soft and fluffy, or hard and solid?
Take these elements into consideration to play around with your stems and create a beautiful floral arrangement.
Afloral is a great place to find a variety of stems. Here are some of my favorite stems available this season grouped as I’d put them together to make a floral arrangement myself.
I hope this makes it easier for you to bring these beautiful stems into your home to display!
To go along with every great floral arrangement, you need a vessel. Here are some of my favorites.
