Halloween Decorations: A Post-Apocalyptic Living Room
Spooky Halloween, friends! My excitement got the best of me, and I already have our living room and entryway decorated for Halloween. And look who is back! Skelly! We sure do love seeing his toothy grin around here year after year. Do yourself a favor, invest in one of these “life-sized” skeletons, and you’ll find that it pays you back over time. We’ve had Skelly for a few years now, and he always makes an appearance.
I try to decorate our space with a different theme each year, so that it feels fresh, and feeds my creative bug, so this year, I took a que from the world around us, and imagined what this space might look like if we (humans) were to cease to exist. Creepy, I know, but it looks fun, and hey, we’re fine! For now….
The image of vines breaking through from the outside kept flashing in my mind, and I figured out a great and inexpensive way to make it happen, thanks to a faux vine wreath I had on hand! I disassembled it, and tested the look out on our fireplace. It actually worked, and looked great too! To complete the look across the living room, I did have to buy two more wreaths, but for under $30, it was worth it.
Applying it was a bit tricky. I used a combination of hot glue, and command strips to hold the vines in place. Fun fact, hot glue can easily be removed from most surfaces using rubbing alcohol, but I found this out the hard way after panicking that it wasn’t easily coming off of our wall while trying to reposition a vine, so if you ever want to use this method, I suggest trying it out on an inconspicuous space before applying it in a more obvious space, just in case.
Like any other space you decorate, you’ll want to layer your elements. In this case, we started by leaving the room exactly as it was before. This gives the illusion of time standing still. Next we added the vines, and finally, we topped it all off with a creepy crawly bugs, spiders, snakes, and frogs. Skelly is just the cherry on top, but you could get away with not adding a skeleton just fine.
This has to be my favorite Halloween scene I’ve ever created inside our home! Have a look around via the pictures below, friends. I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for stopping by today!
