Laundry Room Essentials: Function and Beauty Combined
Hey there, friends! Some of us are adding an extra week to the New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge, so that we may have a fully completed room. I’ve decided to reveal mine with part of the group next week. I have a few items left to check off my list before calling it 98% done, and I love the extra time, because it gives me a chance to share this list of laundry room essentials as part of the series.
You know me, I love to combine function and beauty when I design and style a space. I figure if I can, I might as well, because I enjoy the dopamine hit I get when I see pretty things. How about you?
Bottles
Glass bottles are perfect vessels to display and store your liquid household cleaners, detergents, and soaps. I’ve chosen a mixture of clear glass and amber glass bottles for our room. I suggest labeling them to keep track of what is in each, to avoid any possible issues. I prefer a simple label, and will be creating my own for these, soon.
Baskets
A laundry basket comes to mind, of course, but don’t forget that baskets are great storage containers, too. Use them to hold a variety of things, even paper towel and toilet paper rolls. I found the cutest little basket that I’ll be using as a catch-all or perhaps a lint holder.
Hooks
Wall hooks, “s” hooks, hooks with clips. There are so many different types! Wall hooks are great to hang your larger items from. Think brooms, mops, etc. “S” hooks come in many sizes. If you have a horizontal rod in your space, you could always add a few “s” hooks to it, to hold things like smaller brushes, dusters, and more. I have a few that I’ll be using in our space on the storage rack we built.
Wool Dryer Balls
We’ve been using wool dryer balls for quiet a few years. I’m not a fan of the overwhelming smell of dryer sheets, so these do a great job replacing them. If you aren’t scent sensitive, dryer balls can be scented using your favorite scents. If you’re interested in doing that yourself, Pinterest has a ton of tutorials to choose from.
Brushes
Speaking of brushes, I came across a couple that I believe to be essential in a laundry room. A dusting broom, which I’ll use it to keep our countertops free of dust, and a stain removing brush, which I’ve yet to test, and honestly can’t believe I’ve never come across before. I’m sure to get a lot of use out of this one!
Drying Rack
A drying rack comes in handy for those items that can’t be put into a dryer. We’ve used ours for sweaters, cleaning certain towels, and pillow covers for our couch over the years. They come in all sizes, so depending on the size of your laundry room, you could dry so many different things!
Stain Remover Soap Bars
To go along with the stain removing brush, I found these soap bars. They are a natural way to clean stains from cloth, if you prefer to avoid harsh chemicals.
Lint Remover
It goes without saying, cloth usually comes up with lint at some point. This wooden handled lint remover works great on things like the back of your throw pillows. I suggest testing it on an inconspicuous part of your items before fully going for it, just in case your textile is too delicate. There are electric shavers that are great too.
Ironing Board/Mat & Iron
I’m not sure about you, but I have to have an iron in my home. If you have space, an ironing board is a must for your utility room. If you’re short on floor space, but have counter space, a ironing mat is a great alternative.
Get the Look!
Hopefully these suggestions come in handy to you. If you are interested, I’ve linked up products seen in this post, as well as a few others mentioned, for your convenience.
