Natural Decor Elements Create a Unique Christmas Family Room
I allowed myself to have a bit of fun in our family room while decorating it for Christmas. Using natural elements to decorate throughout, the room has a unique look. I love it, and hope you do too!
Garland Alternative
I chose to skip the expected green garland on the mantel and instead opted for a stalk of uva grass displayed across it. Once I did that, I knew I was on track. I added a vintage brass bow, handmade garland, and a couple of knit stockings to complete the vignette.
Cozy Coffee Table Decor
Nothing screams cozy like candles, so they were my go-to additions for the coffee table decorations. You can’t beat the coziness with the faux fire going behind it.
A Very Natural Christmas Tree
The tree was the first thing I designed for this space, way back in September. Maybe August? I don’t remember, but it was a long time ago. I was drawn to copper and brown ball ornaments at the time, and thought they would be perfect for a tree in the family room. To keep it from falling flat I mixed them with silver ornaments to give the tree a beautiful natural look. I didn’t stop there though. I had a pack of dried something (I honestly don’t know what it is.) that I had picked up at HomeGoods at the time, and decided to play around with it, using each sprig as a pick in the tree. That really made a stunning difference. I got an itch to make my own raffia pompom ornaments to complement the sprigs, so I got to work and made some out of raffia that I purchased from Amazon. It was quite an easy craft, and in no time I had about thirty to add to my tree. The partridge topper came last, and it was an amazing find from Target. Unfortunately it isn’t available online anymore, but keep a look out for one next year, or in your store this year, maybe? As for the skirt, I took a fabric remnant and wrapped it around the base of the tree.
Bookcase Decor
Because this space is more intimate than other spaces I’ve decorated in our home, I didn’t want to overwhelm it with too much holiday decor. A few wooden nutcrackers, some bells, a vintage tree, a bottle brush tree, and a new piece of art gave our bookcases a subtle festive look.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this look into our family room this holiday season. I have one more planned holiday post to share with y’all next week, so I hope you will come back to visit for that.
If you haven’t yet, be sure to have a look at my previous holiday posts from this season. You can find them here. I think I have some good ideas that you will like.
Happy Holidays, friends!
