O Christmas Tree
O Christmas Tree, or is it Oh Christmas Tree? I had to look it up, and it turns out “O” is used most often! Anyhow, thank y’all for visiting today! I’m joining the My Home Style Blog Hop: Christmas Tree Edition, hosted by my friend Stephanie of Casa Watkins Living. Stephanie has hosted this hop for quite a few year now, and I’ve always loved participating when I’ve had the chance to. Via the hop, you get to see so many different styles and interpretations of styles to inspire and help you to decorate your own Christmas tree. There has to be something for everyone, so be sure to visit the links at the bottom of the page for all the decorating inspiration one could need!
As 2020 winds down, and seemingly the virus winds up again, we’re choosing to stay home, in hopes that it gives those that need to be out a chance to continue on without the added possibility of infection. With that in mind, I’ve tried to either use what I already have, or order online the things I want to use. I will say that a few of our ornaments were picked up on an outing a few weeks back, when we felt it safe to venture out, and as enticing as it is to browse stores inventory in person for more, I just can’t justify it in the end. Because I tend to feel a bit cooped up and restless at times, I started decorating early this year. Our fireplace and coffee table were first on the list, so they set the precedence for the style of our tree. Some years it’s the other way around, so it’s always fun to see how it ends up! We have a few large trees to choose from (hello, I’m a hoarder) and this year I wanted to use our Norwegian Spruce tree. It has a sparse, but very natural look to it, and a smaller footprint too, so it was the perfect choice, with all that we’ve been working on around the house causing a mess, to take up as little space as possible, but still feel like we’re sticking to tradition by using a larger tree in our main room.
Since I tend to use vintage pieces throughout my decorating, I knew I’d be pulling out my supplies of vintage ornaments. I have many different styles, and this year a set of simple silver ball ornaments won their place on our tree. This is where I’d mention hitting up your thrift stores after the holidays to find some good ones, but ya know, COVID. I mixed them with two sets of new ornaments I picked up from our local Target the day they started putting out their inventory. We just happened to be there, and if you’re a Target shopper you know you have to move fast to get what you want before it sells out. Luckily I see that they are still available online, so I’ll link them up for you at the bottom of the post.
I had picked up some pinecone shaped ornaments from Hobby Lobby during one of my visits when I felt it was safe enough to venture out. I had planned on returning them, but it’s just not worth the risk, so instead I placed them on the tree, and you guessed it, I loved them! I left it at that point to work on other things around the house, and for a couple of days I was really unsure of where I wanted it to go next. I just knew it wasn’t done. I like taking a bit of time when I have it, to really let the design speak to me. It came to me that I needed to add velvet ribbon to the tree once I used it to create a wreath for our living room. Again, I left it and came back another day to add gold and silver ball ornaments that I had in our inventory. Later that night I tested green and red ball ornaments in a smaller size, and though the red was glorious, my husband wasn’t feeling it, so out of respect I cut them our and left the green. Another day passes and it still doesn’t feel done. Then the idea of using strands of gold bead garland came to me, so I ordered some online and added them once they came in. You guessed it again, I loved it, but it still didn’t feel finished, so I added our battery operated candles to the mix, and left it at that. It wasn’t until just a few days ago that I realized that I needed to add even more ribbon to the tree. I already had this beautiful chiffon ribbon to use on our gifts this year, but I had more than enough to share it with the tree, so I did. It really gave the tree a beautiful delicate look. That’s when I added in the smaller white ball ornaments to the mix.
I’ll admit it, I think the tree needs a bit more ornaments to complete the look, but even if I don’t end up adding more, I’m happy with where it’s at right now. Oh my goodness, I forgot the star of the show! The literal star tree topper! We had it in our inventory, and while going through totes to find our tree skirt, oops I forgot to mention that too, I found the topper, and knew it was perfect for this tree. Your tree is lovely, I have a similar tree that I purchased at Target a couple of years ago based on a blog I saw. I decorate it with my vast collection of ever growing glass pinecone ornaments (I have promised myself not to buy any this year) yeah right like that’s gonna happen. Anyway I use a very long strand of those fairy lights at Pier One and they are so delicate and you don’t see the wires, works very nice on these delicate types of trees. Merry Merry Christmas!
