A Pantry Makeover: The Reveal
Hey there, friends! Thanks for stopping by the blog today to see if we made our deadline to complete our walk-in pantry makeover for the One Room Challenge! For those of you new to the site, welcome, I’m Iris! You can catch up on this makeover, here, and I’d love for you to look around at our other projects too while you are here as well! We’ve slowly been transforming our builder grade home into the home of our dreams. You can see many of those transformations play out over six weeks,in the One Room Challenge.
Don’t know what the One Room Challenge is? Read all about it here!
When we set out to complete this makeover, we didn’t take into account the overall lifestyle changes we’ve been making to better ourselves and our family around here. What would have been us working day after day to complete this makeover turned out to be us taking time away from the stresses of a deadline, and enjoying our time together as a family. I’ve recently taken steps to get in shape again, so I’ve turned to during my “free time” instead of painting or caulking to finish this up in time. I don’t regret it at all, except that I am a stickler for doing what I set out to do, so we’ve been working like crazy the last few days to pull to room together.
From an overflowing mess to a well organized and functional space, we’ve completed the challenge, and are ready to enjoy this room and what it will now offer to our sanity around here. Does anyone else feel great when things are in order, like I do? It makes me question my sanity each time I decide to start a new project, because it always ends up that we are living in a mess that could compete with the greatest of hoarders, until we are done with it. Haha!
I wanted this space to have the feel of a old store pantry, mixed with the timelessness of a classic home and some modern elements as well. I love white and wood, and though this space would look amazing painted other colors, I ultimately decided to keep with my personal style. After all, I live here, and I think that you always have to consider yourself over what’s popular when it comes to your home. With as quickly as styles change in home decor, it’s the best way to go in my opinion.
On top of the storage for food, we now have space to store kitchen appliances that we don’t use on a daily basis. We also have the utility cabinet to hide away things like toilet paper, medicine, and cleaning supplies. We even plan to alter the inside of the cabinet to have it hold our brooms, mops, and vacuums. We’ve held off on that though, because we are considering another space for that option, and until we make up our minds we don’t want to make any permanent changes we may regret.
My dream is to replace the slab door with a door that has a glass lite or many glass lites to make it even more stunning in combination with our kitchen. That’ll come in the future, when finances allow for it, and when I happen to find the door I’ve dreamed up in my head. That’s the hardest part, and the fact that I’ll need two since the laundry room is right next door.
I hope this makeover has given you inspiration for your own pantry or small closet. Although it’s currently styled for the reveal photo shoot, and will hold much more food, it really goes to show that you don’t need a lot of space to start out with in order to make a big impact. You only need to consider the layout to make all of your space work for you.
Until next time, friends!
