Anchor the Tabletop
Anchoring the tabletop is a such an important step in styling your coffee table, as it’s the point from which you will build your design. Decorative trays and coffee table books are great anchoring objects to consider. You’ll want to take the size and shape of your coffee table into consideration when choosing these items. Be sure to leave room for some of the tabletop to be exposed and useful.
Add Height
Adding height gives the eye somewhere to look, and also gives decorative objects room to breath. Using decorative vases, candlesticks, stacked books, stacked boxes, and footed bowls are some of my go-to objects to add height to a coffee table. I like to stack taller objects onto at least on of my anchors, creating layers in the overall look.
Display Decorative Objects
I love finding decorative objects to display on my tabletops. It’s one of my favorite things to hunt for when out shopping vintage. These objects can honestly be anything that catches your eye. Crystals, small canisters, beaded strands, linked objects never fail.
Add Warmth
It’s my opinion that every coffee table needs a candle displayed on it. The visual warmth that it creates, is so inviting. Display your favorite scented candle, or, if you are like me and scent sensitive, use tapered candles, displayed in your favorite candlestick, or votive candles in your favorite votive. Don’t forget your candle accessories! They are not only utilitarian, but can act as a decorative object in your design.
Add Natural Elements
I’ve yet to find a coffee table styled without at least one natural element catch my eye. Natural elements give life to your space, so be sure to display a bouquet of flowers, a potted plant, or add crystals to your table.
Make it Personal
This is your table after all! Be sure to include objects or items that bring you joy!
