Fall Styling: My Favorite Fall Pillows
It’s time to make our homes cozy, and one of the easiest ways to do that is to switch out throw pillows/ pillow covers around the house with warmer fabrics, colors, and patterns. I shared a few of my favorites with y’all a couple of weeks ago in my “Fall Decor Prep” post, but here are all of the pillows you will see in my home this fall.
Since I usually use this method to switch from season to season, and have mostly shopped big box stores in the past, I decided that I wanted to mix it up a bit and shop from both smaller companies, as well as larger companies. I found some great Etsy shops for you all to peruse. They all provided product and services as promised, and I’m really happy I chose to go this route.
Here are my top tips to decorate for fall using pillows!
First off, figure out what the season means to you. For instance, my whole design plan for fall revolves around creating a warm and cozy setting. This is the time of year that my family and I will be gathering together to celebrate the many upcoming holidays, as well as my son’s birthday. I want everyone to enjoy themselves, and to feel as comfortable as possible while they are in my home. Plus, when I think about fall, it’s probably just as exciting as spring to me, since it’s the first sign of the weather to come. Here in Texas, we don’t feel a huge shift in temps for quite some time, and since I’m a fall-aholic, I have to try and achieve that warm and cozy feeling inside long before the actual temps correspond outside. Basically, I have to fake it for a while!
To achieve a warm and cozy pillow combination for fall, consider the following:
- Texture: Texture has to be one of my favorites to consider when pulling pillows for a design. It’s one more layer that makes a home’s style feel more put together. Look for fur, leather, flannel, wool, velvet. Any one of these can warm up a room instantly!
- Pattern: This is where you get to add some personality and have a little fun! For fall my mind immediately goes to the following patterns. Solid, Plaid, Larger Patterns, Argyle, Tartan. If you want a more obvious fall pattern, think leaves and pumpkins. I know some people love to mix a ton of fall patterns together, and I think it’s cute, but my advice is to mix one or two into the overall design. You’ll still get the desired effect.
- Color: Here’s another area that can be fun when picking pillows for a new season! Some people love orange tones around this time of year. Maybe you’re more of a purple toned person? No worries, do what you want! You can’t go wrong if you stick to deeper tones, or neutrals for fall. Black and white is big around this time of year too, so don’t be afraid to mix them into the group.
Simple, huh? Now that you have these tips under your belt, go and have some fun finding the best fit pillows for your home, or shop the post via the pictures above if you love the ones I’ve chosen. Whatever you do, have fun while doing it!
Until next time!

Of all the seasons – I think I love using texture and color the most during fall! They are all so beautiful and neutral enough not to throw me for a spin (spring and summer are too much for my black and white loving heart) 😛 These are great picks! Happy autumn my friend!
