One Room Challenge-Week 2 (Progress)
Welcome back friends! Can you believe a whole week has passed already? I feel like everyone says that, but it’s true! I had the best of intentions to get just about everything done this past week, but of course that was wishful thinking. Haha! Of course I can’t do it all in one week! Not with so many other responsibilities on my plate.
So what did I get done? Well, we removed the wire shelving, and hung the cabinets all in a matter of an hour last Saturday. I’m honestly surprised with how quickly we were able to do it! I had researched the process on Pinterest, and found many tutorials to follow.
It was really easy! Once we marked the studs along the wall we hung a ledger board to help support the cabinets as we drilled the screws into the wall. I think that helped with keeping them level just as much as it did to support them.
So now we have storage, but that’s not all of it! With my father-in-law’s help we set up our table saw (on loan from my aunt), and cut the pieces to create the cubbies that will go over the cabinets. I’ll share more about that next week when I actually put it all together.
Other than that, we went to Lowe’s to have paint matched to the color of our cabinets for the cubbies, and to look for paint color options for the walls in the room. I’m thinking I want to stick with a lighter color. Most likely a light blue or gray to keep with the rest of the house. We brought a few paint swatches home to look at in the room, and I think we have a winner, but I want to get a sample and test it out before I announce it.
One thing I can confirm is the knobs for the cabinets. I found them months ago at HomeGoods and picked them up knowing that one day I would use them in this space. I’m glad that’s one thing off my list!
I still have A LOT to do before this space is complete though. Here’s what’s left:
Decided on a paint color and paint the room.
Build, paint and install the cubbies along with crown molding.
Install a hanger rack.
Build or buy a drying rack and install it.
Install the plank wall detail and paint it.
Decide which countertop I want to go with and either build or order it.
Install lower cabinet.
Choose a light for the space. (We are still unsure if we want to keep or replace the current light fixture.)
Find decor for the room and decorate.
I hope you’re enjoying the process as much as I am! Week two’s post always seems to be the most boring for me. I think it’s because of all the excitement built up in week one’s post. Next week should be really good though, because the next few days will be dedicated to getting as much as possible done.
I look forward to hearing from y’all! Oh and be sure to visit Calling it Home to follow along with the 20 featured bloggers, and their progress. Also, I’d love if you followed along with my friends who are also linking up for the challenge! I know you will enjoy them all!

I love those cabinets with the simple detail on the front! I have almost identical door knobs in my laundry room cabinets. Mine are a green/blue color. I love them and people comment on them all the time. I am so excited to see this laundry room come together!

Thank you Emily! I am working on a pretty tight budget with this makeover since I have a few larger ones in the works, so finding in stock cabinets with the details I wanted was such a treat for me! I’m glad you like them! Oh and I remember seeing your knobs now. They are very similar, and so pretty!

Love you inspiration, Iris! It’s going to look so clean – just like a laundry room should! 🙂

Thank you Heather! That’s what I’m hoping I end up with! I’m going to be working pretty hard this weekend so we will see if I stick to my plans or not. LOL!

Girl, I am loving your plans….Loving the white on white…neutral feel of the space. Looks great!

Thank you Jessica! I’m so excited to move forward with this space. I’ve been dreaming it up for a while, because the space was just not functional. Do you think it’ll make me want to do laundry more? LOL!

Hi Iris, I love the knobs you picked out! I just picked up some new knobs for the dresser in my ORC room too. They have so many pretty ones from HomeGoods. Yep, got mine from there too 🙂
Iris says
Thank you Tee! I know! HomeGoods is great for ALL things. Mine has a TJ Maxx attached to it, so I’m in shopping heaven every time I visit it!

That’s refreshing to hear that the cabinets didn’t take that long to install! I’m so excited to see what you do next week! Love those knobs!

It was a daunting task, but I think with all of the research I did I couldn’t go wrong. Luckily my husband and I were on the same page with this install so that helped it go smoothly as well. I can’t wait to visit and see what you’ve been up to!
