Outdoor Living: A Patio Makeover
Gosh you guys, I keep piling things onto my “to-do” plate, and I’m starting to get really excited about where this is all going. We’ve decided to makeover our patio again this year, which is sort of crazy since last year we put so much work into creating that second sitting space in our backyard and loved the outcome, but guess what we did this weekend that catapulted us into making this decision? We bought new patio furniture! Last year we decided to wait on purchasing new furniture for at least a year so that we could save up for it, and I guess the time has come since we saved about $300 on our furniture at World Market during their Friends and Family sale. It’s still going on if you want to take advantage of it, but it ends today so don’t wait too long!
We actually visited the store on a whim to see what sort of in-store goodies we could find, and while I was browsing an outdoor pillow cushion caught my eye. I needed a couple more to complete my new set, and these were the perfect ones to do it. So I pushed my basket on over to them, and picked up a couple. Then I made my way around and saw the furniture we purchased on display. So first off let me say that the style was exactly what I was looking for, and then when I saw the price and figured out how much we’d be saving I knew it was the right move. John and I agreed that it was a good purchase to make, and now we are the happy owners on new patio furniture.
It took a couple of trips to get it all home, but it’s here now, and I’ve already been working on the design plan for the space. I want to incorporate as much of our existing furniture into the design to save money, but I added a few look-a-like items to the design board for you to take advantage of if you’d like. Of course my number one goal is to make sure it’s a comfortable space. I wont use it if not, but with the comfort the new furniture provides I doubt that’s going to be an issue. As far as the overall style, it’ll fit in with the rest of my home with a nod to coastal style decorating. Hopefully it’ll read like something from a Serena & Lily catalog. I keep telling my husband that by the end of all of this renovating, that’s what I hope for our home, but with a bit of mid-century modern/boho vibe too. We’re on track, I think.
Despite having a covered patio, I still need to come up with some sort of shade for those hours when we are pelted by the hot Texas sun. I think I’ve narrowed my options down to either pull down shades or curtains. I’ll be sure to update y’all with what I find. We are also switching the layout of the space so that the new furniture will sit back on the covered patio, and the dining will move over to the pebble garden area. We might need to modify our table that we built last year to accommodate an umbrella, or we may end up building a whole new table, we will see. Again, that’ll be something I share with y’all as we make progress.
What I love the most about this particular project, is that I don’t have to worry about a professional being hired to do any of it. It’s all DIY/styling and I can do that myself during the day, which should allow for the project to come together fairly quickly. I hope to have it all ready in time for Easter, since we usually do our egg hunting in our backyard.
Don’t forget, the World Market Friends & Family event ends today (Monday the 13th), so be sure to visit your local store, or click over to their site to take advantage of it. I linked up all the items shown in the picture for you. Just click/tap the item, and it will take you directly to the store’s listing. I hope you find something you like!
Oh, and be sure to come back to the blog tomorrow! I will be sharing our mantel decorated for spring, as part of a fun spring mantel blog hop. Then the next day, Wednesday, I’ll be sharing the rest of my living room decorated for spring. I can’t wait to share it with y’all!
Until then, take care!

This is going to be so beautiful. I am following this thread as I really want to whether you pick the pull down shade or curtains. When you do the follow-up, I’d love to hear why you made the decision that you did.
