Casual Dining Room Decor
I don’t know about y’all, but I’m exhausted from all of the decorating I did over the holidays last year. I’m ready for a calm and casual look around the house, and I’m slowly making my way room to room around the house trying to achieve it. I started off with a quick update of our console table decor in the living room, and recently tackled the dining room too.
Winter is sticking around here in Texas, which makes me want to keep our faux juniper branches out on display. If you saw my Christmas decorations in here you know that they were previously displayed in a glass vase. I easily switched that up with a ceramic vase with a geometric pattern. I love how the muted color looks in this space, especially combined with the wood tones of the basket it sits in.
Of course you want your everyday dining items to be out for use, so I decorated around the basket using my newest HomeGoods find, these cute Kate Spade salt and pepper shakers. The blue and white fit right in!
I also left out some pot holders, and cloth napkins in case we wanted to use them. Our eating habits are changing, so we’re actually making food at home and eating at the table again. It has been a while! That was one of the lifestyle shifts we endured while renovating the kitchen and dining room, and it’s so nice to be back in here!
A few coasters are also out for us to use, because God forbid anyone set a glass on the top of my table! I’ve actually become one of those ladies! Haha! Everything is sitting on top of my new linen table runner that I also found at HomeGoods. The linen material lends itself to the casual look I was hoping to accomplish.
With the builtin in the back of the room being almost complete, I added a basket to the right side to hold our extra tea towels and such. I was concerned that I wouldn’t love the two wire baskets being next to each other, but the patterns from the materials they are holding break up the look enough to make it work. By the way, have I ever told you I have an obsession with tea towels. I can’t resist them!
And there you have it! My dining room casually decorated for the everyday around here. Now on to the next space, or maybe I’ll wait until the playroom is complete. Then again, I have the time these days to dedicate a bit of attention to random spaces around the house, and I am finding that I can’t sit still so I’ll probably end up doing just that.
Here are some tips to create a casually decorated space of your own:
- Use everyday items as your decor.
- Bring in some greenery. A small floral arrangement, plant or faux greenery will work well. Remember to keep it simple.
- Use pattern throughout. Mix and match for an eye-catching look.
- Use mixed materials for a more collected look. In our case we mixed wood, leather, and metal with cloth items. All things we would acquire over time.
I hope these tips help you out!
